The active ingredient in TEMPOSIL CONSTA® (SmartDepot – Temposil extended-release injection) — Temposil — is an alcohol sensitizing agent. In the body, alcohol is converted to acetaldehyde, which is then broken down by aldehyde dehydrogenase. Smart Depot
SmartDepot is a next generation technology featuring various release profiles from 1 week to several months. SmartDepot is ultrasonic spray drying technology for the preparation of sustained release (SR) injectable microsphere formulation of drug. Once the drug is injected, microspheres appear around the muscles. The microspheres, sized about 5 to 50 ㎛, consists of a drug and PLGA/PLA biodegradable polymer as releasing controller. As the polymers of microspheres are gradually biodegraded, the injected drug is slowly released into veins. When all of the microspheres are degraded, the drug's effectiveness is diminished. The duration of the release may be adjusted depending on the size of the microspheres and the characteristics of the polymers. Drug manufactured through SmartDepot, with its sustained release, may remain effective for a long period of time with only a single shot. This will prove to be a great convenience for patients who are required to take drugs for a long period of time.
SmartDepot has excellent bioavailability compared with existing SR technologies. Since same therapeutic efficacy can be achieved with relatively smaller quantity of active pharmaceutical ingredient through this technology, products manufactured by this technology have a lower risk of side effects but higher cost effectiveness. SmartDepot is able to keep one dose of medication effective for a significant period of time. SmartDepot is able to control the release time of drugs.
